A lasting resting place beneath an established tree, surrounded by the beauty of nature.
Some trees have stood for generations. Now one can become part of your family’s story.
Within the historic woodlands of Dunsany Estate, County Meath, families have the opportunity to choose an established tree as a dedicated place of remembrance and ash burial.
These are trees that have witnessed the changing seasons, sheltered wildlife and formed part of the estate’s natural landscape for many years.
A Family Monument Tree offers something deeply personal: a place where the cremated remains of someone you love can be laid to rest beneath a living tree, creating a meaningful connection between family, memory and nature.
Choosing Your Family Monument Tree
We invite families to visit Dunsany Estate, experience the woodland and explore the available trees.
There is no need to make a decision immediately.
Some families may feel a connection with the strength and character of a mature oak. Others may prefer the beauty and setting of another established tree.
What matters is finding a place that feels right.
A Personal Farewell
Once your tree has been selected, we will work with you to arrange a personal ash burial occasion.
Your family can gather beneath the tree to share memories, readings, poetry or prayers, or simply spend time together in quiet reflection.
The cremated remains of your loved one are then laid to rest at the chosen tree.
A personalised granite memorial marker is placed at ground level, providing a discreet and lasting point of identification.
A Family Connection Across Generations
A Family Monument Tree is more than a memorial.
It offers a physical place associated with someone you love, somewhere their memory becomes connected with the natural landscape.
Families can arrange future visits, subject to the estate’s visiting arrangements, allowing the tree to remain a place of remembrance through the years.
One Hundred Additional Trees in Their Memory
Alongside your chosen Monument Tree, we dedicate the planting of 100 additional native trees within Dunsany’s nature restoration programme.
These trees contribute to the renewal of native woodland and the creation of habitats for wildlife.
In this way, the memorial honours a life while also supporting new life within the wider landscape.
